5 Tips for Healthy Skin

For many of us, having beautiful and healthy skin can be achieved with just a few basic things in taking care of ourselves. While some skin problems such as acne may be caused by hormonal imbalances, overactive glands, or other medical conditions, learning how to take care of yourself well can also greatly help you have healthy skin also.

Here are 5 simple steps for healthy skin:

1. Don't Smoke: Smoking exposes the skin on your face to many toxins and pollutants. This can attribute to clogged pores which can lead to a break out. Not only is quitting smoking good for your skin, but it's also good for your heart and lungs as well!

2. Wash Your Face: Many people do not know the right way to wash their face, and often either wash it too often or not enough. For most people, washing twice a day with a mild cleanser is the best routine. You may weekly use exfoliates or astringents, but do not want to use them too much since over dry skin can also lead to break outs.

3. Eat Right: A well balanced diet helps not only with improving your overall health, but can also promote healthy skin as well. Eating balanced meals that incorporate all of the food groups will help your body get all of the nutrients it needs for repairing damaged skin and replenishing skin cells.

4. Reduce Stress: Stress causes our bodies to release Cortisol, which can also be related to causing breakouts. While it can be hard to avoid stress completely, making sure your routine has time scheduled into it each day for relaxing activities or meditation may help you live a less stressful life.

5. Wear Sunscreen: Even in the winter months, too much sun exposure can cause damage to your skin. Always wear a sunscreen that does not clog pores and offers a minimum SPF of 25 or higher, depending on your location and skin type. Protecting your face from the sun will help it stay healthy for many years to come.

Good skin care is not that difficult to do once you know the basics. Not only will doing the things listed above help you have healthy and glowing skin, but will also help your entire body stay healthy!
